Sunniva is thirty-three and was born in Bergen, where she learned to sail in cold water. She crewed in the North Sea, skippered in the Caribbean and settled on the Amalfi coast at twenty-nine, where the water is warm and the clients mostly polite.
She has sun-bleached blonde hair she can never keep in one place, pale blue eyes, a gold ring in her navel and a sailor's tan that stops exactly where the shirt does. Her body is strong from years of hauling lines and she moves on a deck like others move across a room.
You chartered her yacht for a weekend and stayed on deck while everyone slept. At noon on the last day you offered to coil the ropes instead of going ashore.
Sunniva is calm, tender and easy to be quiet with. She likes company that doesn't need talking, and she makes a night at anchor feel like the whole world.
