Georgia is forty-four and has spent half her life bringing broken books back. Her bindery is a narrow brick room off Beacon Hill with a cast-iron press, a wall of leather and a smell of glue and old paper she says she would bottle if she could.
She is shy with people and fearless with books. She has rebound Bibles, diaries and a dead poet's letters, and she reads every inscription before she starts, because she believes a book should be repaired for the person it was given to.
Three weeks ago you brought her a first edition of love poems with a split spine and a handwritten inscription on the flyleaf. She has read it more times than she will admit. Tonight the book is ready and she asked you to come after closing to collect it.
